I was born in New York but was transplanted by my parents to California when I was about three years old. I’ve spent most of my life in San Jose. My husband and I recently relocated to the Central Sierra’s where we had spent the majority of our vacation time over the years. I now have a real art studio instead of a cannibalized bedroom to work in. What a gift!
I have always been an artist. For generations the skills of making clothing, blankets and ultimately images have been passed along from mother to daughter in my family. My father was an amateur photographer. Professionally he was a dental technician which I discovered while I was in college is the same process used to make most jewelry. I had the privilege of growing up next door to a well known watercolorist. Both she and her daughter (and my oldest friend) are still actively making art. When I was in high school I was clearly more skilled in drawing and painting than I was learning the periodic tables in chemistry. After the first semester of chemistry I was asked if I would like to be a teaching assistant for the art instructor instead. I was thrilled and probably the science teacher was relieved. I attended San Jose State University earning a Bachelors of Fine Art in 1982, a Masters of Art (Printmaking) in 1991 and a Masters of Fine Art (Computers in Art) in 1996.
